New Delhi, April 2026: In a major step towards transforming India’s school education system, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) as a core component of the curriculum for the academic session 2026–27. The new framework will be implemented for students from Classes 3 to 8, marking a significant shift towards skill-based and technology-driven learning. The initiative is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023, both of which emphasize future-ready skills, digital literacy, and competency-based education. According to CBSE officials, the new curriculum aims to introduce students to logical thinking, problem-solving, pattern recognition, and basic concepts of artificial intelligence at an early stage. The move is expected to prepare students for a rapidly evolving digital economy and enhance their employability in the long term. Structured Training and Implementation Plan: To ensure effective implementation, CBSE has designed a comprehensive teacher training programme centered around seven key themes. These include foundational concepts of AI and computational thinking, pedagogy, interdisciplinary integration, real-world applications, assessment strategies, and ethical use of technology.
