Hamirpur, April 2026:
In a significant move aimed at strengthening technical education infrastructure, Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) has approved a budget of ₹76.07 crore for the 2026–27 financial year, with a strong focus on research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The decision was taken during a finance committee meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, with state government backing emphasizing the importance of skill-based education and industrial exposure. The budget reflects a clear shift from traditional academic models toward research-driven and innovation-focused technical education.
A major portion of the allocation includes ₹3 crore dedicated to modern laboratories and infrastructure development, ensuring students gain access to advanced learning environments. Additionally, ₹1 crore has been earmarked for academic resources such as books, journals, and e-learning materials.
Student development has also been prioritized, with increased funding for extracurricular activities, innovation clubs, and placement initiatives. The university plans to introduce PhD programs across departments, promoting a strong research culture and encouraging academic excellence.
Education experts believe such initiatives will enhance employability by aligning academic learning with real-world technical skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
